How to create your own shortcuts to Settings
Aficionado
Dear all,

If u hate tapping several times in order to access ur individual settings stuff (e.g. tap 'Start' + tap 'Settings' + tap 'Today' + tap 'Appearance' to change ur theme), u can actually create ur own shortcuts. I am not talking about using file explorers or ActiveSync to do a simple 'Paste Shortcut', but rather to write our own shortcuts to these settings. Anyway, u cant create shortcuts for some settings using the 'Paste Shortcut' methods.

The implications of being able to do this is that we can now further customise our Start menus or even our Startup sequences on our device. For more uses, please refer to http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=51858
Perhaps less importantly (but still important!), we can save ourselves from the hassles of a few extra taps whistle.gif.

The steps are pretty simple, but so far this'll work for the most of the settings (i.e. settings to config our BT, power, memory, passwords, etc, etc) only. One other thing, the icon images of shortcuts u create will not look very nice (see attached picture).

How to write/create ur own shortcuts: (Test Platform = O2 XDA II Mini)
1) Choose a command line from the first example (highlighted in red) shown below (look out, its a massive list!!!). For instance, to create a shortcut to ur password settings at "Settings>Personal>Password>Password", the command line (just next to the settings name) is "20#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,1".
2) Open a new Notepad document on ur desktop.
3) Copy the command line (20#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,1) to the document.
4) Save the file as "Password.lnk" (since this setting is for the password, but u can name it to anything u wish).
5) Copy the file to ur ppc:
- e.g. '\Windows\Start Menu\' = u'll be able to access that setting from the Start Menu.
- e.g. '\Windows\Startup\' = that setting will be automatically run upon each soft-reset.

The ppc platform which I used to test ALL of the command lines below is the O2 XDA II Mini, which runs on the WM2003SE OS. My guess is that the lengthy stuff below will also work correctly for other XDA devices running on the same OS, but there may be slight variations for other devices/OS = u may have to trial and error if u have other devices/OS.

Bro vicott,

Nice find; may save some bros alot of work wink.gif.

Let me just add that Bro vicott's shortcuts to the feature settings are really for the iPaq platform = some of the attached shortcuts will not work for XDAs. Examples:
1) Backlight 1
2) Backlight iPaq
3) Contrast
4) etc

Also, u wont be able to customise shortcuts right down to the last tab.
For example, Bro vicott's attached shortcut to Owner Information accesses only:
i) Settings>Personal>Owner Information>Identification

The messy stuff written in the first post can allow u to create shortcuts to access:
i) Settings>Personal>Owner Information>Identification
ii) Settings>Personal>Owner Information>Notes
iii) Settings>Personal>Owner Information>Options

Not much difference anyway grin.gif.

I successfully create a shortcut for bluetooth with "21#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,23" for.....like 5 secs...only. After 5 secs it just disappeared!! I try to click on the shortcut on "File Explorer" and it did work. However it never show up on the start menu, even within the 5 secs appear.

Is it because it has no icon? confused.gif
