Full Version: How to hide "Clear Storage"
PPCSG > Power Up Your Devices > Tips & Tricks

I always felt "Clear Storage" is a dangerous shortcut in the control panel since it requires very little effort for a prankster to help you "clean" your device. So, I started looking for a method to hide the shortcut and eventually found it after trial and error.

P.S: This method only works on HTC devices. Only tested on HTC TyTN II.

Steps:
1) Go to HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCCPL
2) Look for the subkey which contains "ClearStorage", e.g. it's "Applet4" on HTC TyTN II.
3) Backup (export) this subkey first. If you feel insecure, perform a full system backup first.
4) Delete the subkey.
5) Soft reset

Alternate Method:
1) Go to HKLM\ControlPanel\Clear Storage
2) Set "Group" to "3".
3) Soft reset

hehe finally you are willing to share!

I personally believe easier to hard reset using the hardware buttons rather than taking all the hassle of going tio the Settings to clear storage... grin.gif

But hard reset using hardware method may be different on different devices. Clear Storage is just too convenient. It's worse if someone new to PPCs get curious and tries to run Clear Storage in an attempt to find out what it is.... wacko.gif

Anyway, I think the same steps also apply for other control panel applets from HTC.

Hi vicott,

Since we are on the topic of hiding shortcuts, can help with how to hide or disable the "weather update" icon in the HTC Today screen ? Always accidentally touch it and got connected. I tried searching here but can't find.

Thanks !!

Hi benson_tan2001,

You might want to try PHM Registry Editor.

Select the Pocket PC 2002, 2003 (ARM/PXA) version.

In registry terms, "key" is like a folder and "subkey" is like a subfolder. Items in the key are called "values". And each registry value have their own "data". Perform a backup first if you are not confident of the tweak.
