Symphony
Just received the mass production sample of the iTech Clip D-R for review.

KJC told me they will organise a launch gathering at its new showroom soon for PPCSG members. At the launch they will sell it to PPCSG members at special discount. Kindly be patient.

The Clip D-R sample I received is orange-black. The color scheme is nice IMHO. The color is metallic orange and not orange plastic. See photos I took, one with the stereo headsets that is going to come with it.

Oh yes i'm waiting.

Is there any difference from the one you had been using?
Symphony
The firmware (software) has been improved compared to the that of the engrg sample previously.

The bonding/pairing and connection is now easily done and stable. Passkey #8888.
Note: As per our feedback, iTech has rectified that a2dp profile loss when headset is connected and then reconnected with WMPhone. The a2dp profile is now automatically reconnected also, not just the handfree.

The music and FM Radio playback is very nice and clear. Listening to nice mp3 music as I am typing. whistle.gif To change to and fro from FM to a2dp mp3 just press and hold the top FM button, it is now real easy. The FM channel will appear on the screen. See photo.

AVRCP now tested to work very well now, can forward and reverse music tracks steadily. When calls comes in, the beeper will beep, number or contact name (if you installed Jetware Extension) will appear on the screen. If you are listening to music when call comes besides the beeper you can hear a ringtone on your headset too, just in case you cannot hear the beep. Just press the main MFB button to answer, after call finish press the MFB button and music listening will continue almost instantly from where it paused.

For the hardware:

1. There is a a micro USB port for charging and firmware update (by KJC if bought thro their authorised dealer here).
2. A 3.5 mm audio jack port, so you can use own 3.5 mm stereo earphones although the one supplied is already very good. The stereo headset bundled will be similar as that of the Clip Radio. The in-ear earbuds hang around neck strap type will not be bundled as it's sound quality was found not to be so good especially for FM Radio.
3. The LED display screen is in the front face. The display words/numbers are in blue. Call history list received or send through the headset can also be displayed and scrolled through on it.
4. On the front face is also the Main on/off MFB button; and the FM, forward, reverse, stop/pause music buttons. The forward/reverse button are also used to select FM channels. You can also jump to next autodetect FM channel by pressing and holding these buttons. At the side of the unit is the volume adjustment +/- in steps. You can also see the volume level on display screen
5. The battery is built in rechargeable type. Battery life should be pretty good as it uses energy saving EDR technology for BT transfer. The engrg sample's battery life is good. The headset has also energy saving display auto-off after sometime if no menu usage.

There are many other features that I have not tested yet, such as changing ringtones etc as I do not have the manual with me.

blink.gif Oops...why so anxious? The sample is with me that is why KJC don't have any. grin.gif I have already mentioned that KJC will arrange a Launch gathering for PPCSG members.. will let you know the date and time later...

BTW forgot to mention that the Clip D-R uses the new Bluetooth STD version 2.1 and the FM Radio is standalone just like Clip Radio, that means the FM Radio can operate without a phone too.

Photo of Clip D-R being charged though its micro USB port at the back, besides it is the 3.5 mm audio out port. Can also see the flap cover for these ports.

Interesting indeed....

This is like the swiss army knife of headsets.

Symphony,

If you have your radio on, will you be to know if you have a new sms/email? Is there any alert sound coming from the iTech Clip D-R to tell you this? Also, will the LED show that we have a new sms/email?

Thanks.

Tested.

For new calls: both a2dp mp3 music and FM Radio - yes, both can hear ringtone. LED shows caller ID.
For new sms/email: a2dp mp3 music -yes can hear alert, FM Radio- no. LED does not show.

Hi Symphony when you mention that PPCSG members will have a launch event and discount does it only apply to those who have Group: PPCSG Member or any member who post on the forums?

Actually it means any "Tom, Dick or Harry" who have registered in this forum here regardless of race, creed, religion, wealth, status or no of posts here. grin.gif

BTW Clip D-R seems to give better music quality rendering, was just listening to some violin orchestra rendering of "Yesterday once more", "Without You" etc, the music was so sweet that tears well in my eyes.. can hear various instruments clearly now grin.gif

Another use of Bluetooth headset:
While charging my WMPhone on a wall socket just now , I was able to still to listen to nice music from it via a2dp from a distance, as I am not wired to my phone....can read book, walk around get a drink etc. whistle.gif

blink.gif Not sure, need to test that out.

BTW if you want your new incoming SMS to be read out to you through your headset, you can install this TTS (text-to-speech) freeware called TellMeText and enable it. Download here http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/tellmetext.shtml See screenshot.
Tested to work on the iTech Clip D-R. grin.gif
If you are listening to a2dp music while the SMS comes in, you will hear BOTH the music and the SMS being read out to you simultaneously unlike incoming phone calls where the music playng will pause automatically. Will ask KJC to feedback to iTech if they can fix this.

Actually, I don't see this as an issue since it's the same behaviour as Clip Radio. Besides, Windows Mobile users rarely use long tones for SMS alerts.

He is talking abt the message been read out, not sms tone.

Yes, unlike the Clip Radio, this new Clip D-R's firmware can be changed or upgraded through the micro-USB port, that was what KJC told me.

Thanks. That is what I meant...the SMS being read out to you word by word....albeit in a robotic machine voice. grin.gif Good for those who drive...can hear SMS and also receive calls at same time using BT headsets....The freeware should also work with other BT headsets too.
lmf2501
Please release it soon! i have been driving without a headset and paranoid when i see police cars hehehe...

Tested, looks like it is not cry.gif ....but I am not absolutely sure as I do not have the manual with me....need to inform & check with KJC later. Hope iTech can fix this too with firmware update later.

Can I start for you? wink.gif
