Just thought i would share an application i developed to help using your Windows Mobile phone work a little more efficient. This application will automatically perform a address book lookup when receiving missed call SMS notification. Here are some screenshots.

Hi rubik,

Nice application there. Correct me if I'm wrong, can i confirm that this application is meant for those users who have subscible to the Call Alert service from their teleco?

If yes, i believe is more for M1 and Singet user coz this 2 telecos will only provide the number of the caller.

However, for starhub, they already implemented. So when i receive a call alert sms, i will see the name of the caller appear if they are in my contacts. (",)

Hi Xiaobaoge,

Yes for Singapore it is your Call Alert service. I am surprised when you say Starhub has implemented this. This is because the telco does not have your address book from your phone. They can only provide you the missed call number, so it is up to your phone's software to process that number.

Same with telco's in Malaysia. When we subscribe to Call Alert service, they will inform us the missed call number.

Hi rubik,

Well I'm a starhub user, whenever i receive a missed call alert, the call alert sms will provide me with the name and number of the caller according to my contacts wor.

I don't recall installing any s/w for this function wor. confused.gif
rubik
hehe, so the question is, how does starhub know the number from YOUR phone's address book ?
xiaobaoge
I've just call them to confirm. They also mentioned that the sms will only provide the number. However, there are certain phones s/w that can interpret the sms and perform a search in the contacts and provide the name accordingly.

Now this really makes me wonder wat s/w in my phone have this capabilites? confused.gif

Well watever the case is, your this little application definately will help lots of user. grin.gif

Thank for sharing the application. grin.gif
rubik
Thanks , to me, this is a MUST have feature grin.gif

I'm using Starhub too. Somehow, the telco is able to send the sms with the caller ID of the missed caller. So the missed call sms actually seemed to orginate from the caller.
rubik
AH, this can be done IF the SMS they send is from the caller's telephone number, instead of Starhub. So it be like the caller is actually the one sending you the SMS.

simple, the reason why it appears that starhub supports is because when it sends a call alert notification message, the message from number is actually the caller number, rather than the telco (e.g. starhub) number. So when a call-alert message is received, it naturally reflects the miss caller name, instead of a number.

for starhub users, therefore, this tool is useless :P
rubik
Ah that's what i thought. Perharps useful to for others using other telcos

Hi zenkinz,

I see your point. But when i call up starhub the other day to try verifying this, the CSO over the phone told me that is the s/w in our phone that able to support. Coz she herself is on starhub line and using sony ericson phone. She only getst the number without the name.

Hmm... I really wonder why.... confused.gif

Maybe i should call Starhub again and check with another CSO this time, see wat's their ans.

Me really curios on this wor... lol.gif
zenkinz
if the miss-caller's number is not in her phone's contact, of course no name lah.

sometime, must discount 50% of what the CSO says grin.gif

Wow, I'm surprised I missed this gem. This is really useful. I even worked on an applicatoin myself today to work-around the deficiency in the Caller Alert service, but this solution is much better than mine. grin.gif
