Just got a sample set of the OMIZ 5110 Caller ID BT Stereo Headset for "review"today, courtesy of Trendsmobile, see
http://trendsmobile.com/main/showdetails.a...ProductID=99554The packaging is professional and well thought out, easy to unpack and re-pack. See photo. This OMIZ BT stereo headset seems to be convergence of international ideas, the box says that it is designed in Hong Kong, R&D + fabricated in Taiwan. The unit says that it is "Made in Korea". After reviewing it I must say it is indeed thoughtfully designed and made.

Now for what is inside the box:
1. Glossy bilingual English/Chinese manual - well written, easy to follow instructions.
2. The unit itself, glossy black in colour, good finishing. It has a MFB on/off button, the plus & minus button which is muti functional as well. It has a slide type on/off switch at the back and a mini USB charging port at the side complete with a sliding cover (very neat). It has a lovely LED display panel, white letters/graphics with black background. This LED display makes it very useful I must say. It can communicate and display status of many variables, e.g. charging, forward/reverse icons, call icon, caller id etc. It has a spring clip mechanism, reminds one of a cloth peg. It also has a 3.5 mm audio port, so that you can use your own earphones.
3. The AC/DC adaptor charger- no mention of power output though. Battery life is rated as >6 hours.
4. A USB/Mini USB charger cable is provided for charging on the go.
5. A lanyard to hang the device round your neck is thoughtfully thrown in.
6. A pair of stereo earphones.
7. A pair of sponge ear bud covers.
Below are photos of the parts and the unit taken together with an iTech Clip Radio for comparison. This OMIZ Headset is understandly larger/longer than the iTech Clip Radio as it has a LED display.

BT pairing is easy. Just hold the MFB button and slide the power switch to ON. "Wait for Pairing" will appear on the LED display. The passkey is 0000.
After pairing on the WMphone side you can set it as Handsfree or Wireless Stereo mode. (It also seem to have a "Headset" mode). These 2 settings makes alot of difference for this headset. Let me elaborate.
Handsfree mode- the Caller ID (phone number of caller) will appear. Name of contact however does not appear. You can use it to answer or reject call. You can use the headset to call people but dialling is on your WM Phone. Voice dialing is supported on some phones. Music playback with WMP etc cannot be heard. The redial feature did not work on my WM Phone.
Wireless Stereo mode - the Caller ID does not work in this mode (a bit sad to note). Works well with and supports A2DP & AVRCP in WMP, Coreplayer, Pocket Music that I tested with. That means you can use the headset remotely to pause/play, forward/reverse your songs selection.
Range - tested was quite good, just as good as many others.
Music playback quality - well, I must say I am not disappointed. The quality is good. One caveat though - the bundled earphones are not very good (high treble, hissing sound). Need to plug in your own better 3.5 mm earphones. I plugged in the earphones from the iTech Clip Radio and voila - the music was very good.
The bland mPlayer gave the best music playback alto WMP, Coreplayer, Pocket Music & Pocket Player all sounded very nice.
This headset is pretty good value for money at S$105 IMHO. Its performance and design is pretty good. It can clip on to your jacket, shirt or blouse etc easily. The LED display can be inverted (by pressing & hold the minus button and power ON) to suit the direction you want to clip it and see the display.

Yes i believed it is the same as the sonicgear set. The sonicgear is also made in korea. I believed it is a oem. I sold off the sonicgear set because i found the sound to be lacking in treble and sharpness. This was using a beyerdynamic dtx50 to test. Also it will not hold well on my shirt because the slit is not spring loaded. I dropped the set a few time only with a light pull on the earphone wire.
Anyway the sonicgear set is selling at challenger for $99 if anyone is interested.
Thanks and regards

Further testing:
Found that for BOTH Caller ID and Music listening to work at same time, it is necessary to enable the "Headset" BT Profile under the Bluetooth Settings-->Devices menu of your WMPhone.
This OMIZ 5110 has 3 BT profiles "Handsfree", "Wireless Stereo" and "Headset" unlike the iTech Clip Radio which has only 2 BT profiles to offer - "Handsfree" and "Wireless Stereo". See screenshots.

While the physical hardware may be the same the firmware could be different, so music quality may differ with the sonicgear set. Unless you have tested both it is hard to say. Firmware does play a part too.

Hi Symphony,
Yes you may be right about different firmware different sound quality. Anyway the sonic gear set is pretty stable and with good range. Too bad it doesnt support caller id names and phonebook.
Hope someday this featues can be updated with a new firmware.
Thanks and regards

Hi Weekong,
Thanks. If you are free you may want to go to Trendmobile and try out the OMIZ one and see whether same or not as sonicgear. :)

The fact that both your phone and PC can't detect the device says something. Either you do not know how to use the thing or its faulty.. Why not you test it out on another phone.. if its still not detecting, I suggest you bring it down to the place you bought it.. get them to see if its faulty or get them to advise how to use the thing.
Don't say you ganna cheated when you haven't consulted the people you bought it from. There's always warranty or some 1 to 1 exchange.
So far after playing with about 10-20 bluetooth earpieces/headsets.. I have never come across one that doesn't get detect by a phone.. Maybe performance issue due to compatibility.. never cannot detect.

Sorry to hear this also. Did you follow the instruction in the manual to pair it? The firmware update I believe shld be by the USB/miniUSB cable connection not using BT connection.
