Hello everyone,

i am trying to read/write chinese but i really don't like Monster, and i find CE-star too expensive... i found this link http://www.mrpalm.com/board/view_board.php?id=81352 and it has instructions to read/write without installing ce-star/monster BUT some work has to be done (editing registry)

Has anyone read or try this before? Any problems? Please share your experience.
If possible, can u write in more details especially the last portion on Chinese SIP.... confused.gif

Please recommend:
1. a good registry editor (preferrably free) for WM5 (i'm using atom exec)
2. what is (last step in the installation listed below) Chinese SIP (require approx 1.5MB), unzip and Install ChinaFEP_no5en.zip??? where do i find the file?

Step to follow:

1.0 Read/Write chinese on your WM5, without installing CE-Star/Monster[font=Arial Black]

1.1 Small installation
1. Download CE-Star 2.8 Suits for WM5 (www.mobem.com/download/index2.php?pro=suitewm5)
2. Extract the zip file and locate the sunglobe.ttf font file
3. Copy this to your \Windows directory on your mobile device
4. In your WM5 registry, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\ add a new key call FontLink. Then, under this newly added FontLink key add another key call SystemLink. Example, you should now have the following in your registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink

5. Now add the following 4 "String" values to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink (or install the sunglobepatch)[Name of value] [Value (in bold)]
Times New Roman \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
Arial \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
Courier New \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
Tahoma \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun

6. Do a soft reset and you are done.
Note: WM5 has delayed registry updating, the registry changes may disappear if you soft reset too fast. Try switching off/on (sleep/wake) or try to modify some settings (like ringtone) before you do a soft reset. If things doesn't work, probably just because of this. Double check to avoid disappointment.
Note: Some devices may need the file wince.nls to able to view Chinese. Refer to `Multi language support` at the Related threads section below.

You need to extract another file from your CE download. That is WINCE.NLS.
Copy this file to \windows and you will be able to see the extended chinese characters.

I use netfront 3.3 most of the time so I didn't have much problem as in PIE.

hi,
i found the HKLM folder, so now i have:
\HKLM\SYSTEM\MICROSOFT\Fontlink\SystemLink\
(did i follow the steps correctly here, creating folder FontLink n sub folder SystemLink

under that folder, i have 4 values:
Times New Roman\Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
Arial\Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
Courier New\Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
Tahoma\Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun

(does it matter if there's a space in "Arial \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,Unisun?" the author has left spaces after all the font names... )

anyway, i've added 2 sets of the 4 strings, 1 with space, 1 without...
installed ChinaFEP_No5En ...

now i can write chinese, but i cant read what i wrote :(

another problem i have is i cant replace the wince.nls originally in my system with the one from CE-Star..

Can someone help me ... pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Nope.

Time New Roman is the name for the String Value. You should enter \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun in the String.
hydeto
Can we load the sunglobe from the storage card rather than from the rom?
Anyone manage to do it?

hi,

ok.. i've redone the registry, and reinstall FEP
still i cant read/write chinese SMS...
but i realize i have been able to read/write in WORD when i change font format to Unisun...

is there anywhere i can change the entire system's font to Unisun? then perhaps i can read chinese sms automatically?

i'm so ready to subdue to the dark forces of paid chinese programs.. lolz

hi all,

Please bear with me. Im rewriting the instruction steps to benefit the mass. Back to proper. I will be using excerpts from the original source.

source 1: "http://www.mrpalm.com/board/view_board.php?id=81352"
(its source is from China forum, i had read the exact same thing)
Source 2: "http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweak_Language_Chinese"

Step to follow:

1. Read/Write chinese on your WM5, without installing CE-Star/Monster.
2. Download CE-Star 2.8 Suits for WM5 (www.mobem.com/download/index2.php?pro=suitewm5)
3. Extract the zip file and locate the sunglobe.ttf font file.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink

6. Now add the following 4 set of "String" values to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink
(or you may insert the 4 set of "string" by installing the sunglobepatch)

[Name of value] [Value (in bold)]
set_a. Times New Roman \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
set_b. Arial \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
set_c. Courier New \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
set_d. Tahoma \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun

7. Play around your device with a few other function before doing a soft reset. And you are done.

There would be 3 files altogether for the above magic to take place. (i have excluded file "wince.nls")

Please surf to source#2 for the necessary download.

I'm really having a hard time lookingg for this registry/folder. please... can somebody help me out? any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well if u don't have this key, then you should create a new key as per instruction. First a new key called "FontLink", then within this new key, create another one called "SystemLink".

You need to reset your device after the registry tweak. Wait for a few minutes after the change before you reset and it should work. whistle.gif

By chinese software I suppose you refer to CE Star or Monster. Yes, just installing CE Star or Monster will definitely allow you to read and write chinese. These registry tweaks is to allow the read/write of chinese without a bundled chinese software. In fact the font used here is ripped from CE Star... whistle.gif whistle.gif

the weirdest thing ever happen and is irritating the sh*t out of me.
my Omnia came together with my brother's ... and i'm helping him configure... I managed to get his gps, sunglobe TTF to work the very first time, and i had to spend 5 hrs getting my own device's gps to get out of the "GPS not fix" mode and worst, sunglobe just refuse to work on my device!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hard reset & start over?
zwen
hard reset and tried more than 8 times last night (5hrs)... finally everything is working RIGHT now .. *keeping fingers crossed*

zenkinz
you may want to check if your phone can read chinese text out-of-the-box. If so, you don't need to install sunglobe
zwen
i wanna write too.. installed SIP too... well with a few hard resets, it's working now. HMM but i found another problem - exclusive to me, not my bro's handset... MY OMNIA SLEEPS forever...

i was charging the phone, and realized, it fell into deeeeep sleep. only woke up to a soft reset..... my settings for right, it's suppose to sleep, and wake up to calls, or alarm, or press of any buttons...

makes me wonder... WHY MY SET IS SO WEIRD?! i'm the omnia jinx....

Sounds like you've got yourself a lemon. One way to deal with this.... secretly swop yours with your brother's. Hehe.... just kidding. Hope everything works out in the end.

One think I don't like about ZTA4 is that it always preset it as the main input method. Need to use third party software to change the main input method. Anyway to get over this?
