maybe it won't work well for touch-screen-only users,

but I find it still reasonably ok (irritating but not those type that irritates me the hell out of it) because

1. I can always press a hardware key to change to english input even if the default is still chinese input (as illustrated by the '拼' icon).
2. When I toggle to english input, even though the SIP icon at the bottom of the screen still shows 'A4', when you click on it, it actually reflects the default SIP you have set previously (although after a softreset, it reverts to default keyboard unless you use third party software like SIPSelect)
3. So the 'chinese default' is only applicable for qwerty input, and could be easily overcome by the lang mode toggle.

perhaps for non-qwerty phone it's abit trickier?

Actually I use the SIP Select but I still need to assigned this program to a hardware key for every reboot. I do not want to assigned this program so that I can free one hardware key for OK/Close button.

However, you mentioned that a softreset will not change the input to chinese if SIP Select is being installed. How can it be done? Anyone knows? haha.. I will try to figure it out but hope that some already know how already! :p

Strange. On my Atom Life, all I need to do is to use the registry hack to switch back to Keyboard & delete SIPinst.lnk. No fuss.

if you select ZTA4 SIP later, and subsequently select back "Keyboard", does your SIP icon still shows ZTA4 or keyboard?

did you try putting the SIP select shortcut (with the SIP CLSID) in the \Windows\Startup ?

As far as I know, this method (in putting the shortcut with the appropiate SIP CLSID in the startup folder) works for almost all SIPs but it seems that for ZTA4 once it's loaded and selected, it doesn't get de-selected. I could be wrong, and E__T's reply will confirm/debunk my suspicious.

went to my registry, it's already defaulted to keyboard but it still shows A4 by default upon each soft reset (assuming you are referring to the registry \HKLU\controlpanel\sip) on further check, I notice the default for preloaded keyboard layout (\HJLU\controlpanel\keyboard layout) is set as e0080804.

Are you referring to the latter registry key? If I change default to e0010409 (which is the code for keyboard), it will work but I will not be able to enter chinese text using qwerty keyboard (no problem with software keyboard though)

Sorry zenkinz, I've always used keyboard-less PPC. I'm not sure abt the registry tweaks for those with keyboard. I'm referring to the first one.

now adays, most WM6/6.1 pocketpc/smartphone support Chinese display OOTB, so font linking is no longer needed. It may even screwed up your font display (happens for my previous Q9h)

This was the big problem when I owned Dopod 818pro. With Omnia now,I can read write chinese in simplified 現在,现在好得很。我爱Omnia.
