Right after M1, SingTel is the second mobile operator to provide HSDPA services in Singapore. Unfortunately, island-wide coverage is still not available at the moment and will be expected by end of 2007. The service is called "Broadband on Mobile" and you can have a choice from one of the 3 price plans: 512Kbps ($31.50), 1.8Mbps ($47.25) and 3.6Mbps ($78.75). All of the price plans come with 10GB worth of data usage and $1.75/MB therafter. For more details, do refer to the press release
here.

i didnt even exceed my 5gb with m1 broadband. i don't think people will download anime with this service... 3.6 is good, but only when we get nearer to town. im far away from that...
just have to wait for starhub den. hey starhub if you are reading this, please add this to a VAS instead!

Same case as you now. I also don't exceed 5GB per month. Only advantage is that I can use it with my 838pro.

Kind of good news to me and other STM users.
My current usage is around 8 GB per month with BB and mobile web surf, this will be another option for me to switch from unlimited plan to this cheaper plan.

How much u pay for unlimited plan? Any unlimited plan for 3.5G? Any experienced it? How is the sustained speed on it?

Around $62, but it is only 3G, not 3.5G.
Anyway, I have both Starhub BB unlimited and singtel BB unlimited, both are equally good and stable. My experience shows that Starhub is faster than Singtel more often when surfing directly from my e61i or use it as a modem to notebook.
I am going to switch to the 3.5G when it is available, it is going to save half of the cost

Just realised from this micro-site that these plans are available for 3G phones. Wonder if users with 3G SIM Card but 2.5G phone can still subscribe to this.

Is the singtel broadband available as a VAS(value added service)? Or it is just only a data plan and cannot be used together with a mobile voice plan(eg. iOne, iTwo). I think it is only a data plan currently else its too good to be true that its offering 10GB as a VAS for only $31.50(512KB)

From what is seen from the website and ads, it seems that the strategy is very different from M1. So, it's really a VAS unlike in M1's case.
Btw, I just read that M1 has a clause that gives them the right to terminate/suspend the HSDPA service if the customer exceeds 10GB of monthly usage.
Anyway, SingTel is aiming to lure their existing 3G data plan users over to the new plans.

My 512k plan activated this afternoon. I find the speed is decent enough if you are using on the pda. : )

I think speed wise on PDA is not an issue since our PDA also can't go very fast. More likely to those using on laptop will find the different.

I hope that it can be use as a VAS but after checking the singtel website(mobile price plan section)
http://home.singtel.com/consumer/products/...ew_overview.aspif you click the data price plan, the singtel broadband plans are not there.
So my bet is, its is currently a standalone data plan and not a VAS.

Anyway whatever it call doesn't matter, most impt it is tied with Singtel mobile price plan unlike M1.

3G / 3.5G services are still ridiculous! i wouldnt spend a penny on it. I literally had to ask Starhub to refund my money. the services are sloowwww! unreliable, they disconnect every 10-15 mins, all three players Starhub (the worse), Singtel and M1 are practically cheating customers. you cant get any HSDPA modem anywhere unless you buy it at jacked up prices from them! and what about the ridiculously high monthly charges on top of your regular internet service, and yet it doesnt work properl?
bottom line... stick with
Wifi! there is just no decent, reliable, cost effective service available for HSDPA and by the looks of it, its not going to be available any time soon. and so far the best Wifi smartphones are only available from Nokia and they are only getting better. thats the only decent mobile internet solution right now and in the near future.

http://buzzzword.blogspot.com/The difference between 3G and wifi is that 3G enables the user to surf anywhere with 3G coverage unlike wifi which is dependant oo hotspots. Now it has come to a point where 3G has became mainstream. The recent singtel plans come with 50G of data which is as good as unlimited data usage with as low as $20 pm. sign up for 12 month and you have 6 mnths free. I have been using the broadband service on my tytn ii which I find the service very good and reliable. I can actually give up my fixed line sngnet broadband. In conclusion, the 3G broadband service is matured and ready by mainstream use.

HSPDA is here to stay. Right now singtel promo abt $22 per + 6 mths free for 12 mths contract. So its abt $11 per mth. Its getting more and more affordable for data plan. For those who has VOIP account like pfingo can actually use HSDPA + VOIP account to cut on mobile bill. Basically, can change to the lowest mobile plan and start using VOIP to make outgoing call.

while mobile broadband is getting more and more acceptance, I am not so sure if it is really matured and ready to be used as mainstream broadband usage, let alone to replace cable/adsl broadband. performance would be hit once the mass gets on to this mobile BB bandwagon.

i guess, it all depends on the users. if u r on the go type and need that mobile on line. y not. I think $22 for that, is cheaper than before. but I didn't use that, so can't comment much about the service and coverage. If I am into sales line or those insurance, maybe I will gt lor. rather than always hunting for wifi...
