My HP iPAQ 6818 is also facing the same common fault like the rest of the iPAQ 6818/6828 users.

After removed the earphone from the jack, the speaker failed to work.

I believed this is likely due to the mechanical defect in the earphone jack.
There is a small spring inside the jack which act as a on/off point to route the sound signal to the earpiece when inserted. However, it get stuck at the same position after the earpiece had been removed.

If you insert the stylus into the jack and twist for a few times, you might release the spring and the speaker will work again.

I tried using some cotton bud soak with little W40 lubricating oil and apply into the jack and now I am able to get rid of the jack problem. grin.gif

Hi tonyc, if it is due to mechanical defect, your method will work fine,
however provided the spring (if there is) is not dislocated out of alignment.

The complete socket component usually encased and soldered on
to the board. Applying the W40, I personally felt is a great risk.
We do not know the composition of material used for the board.
Device of this miniature size, I believe more than two layers board
being used, therefore with such lubricating oil, I hope it will not
change the capacitive nature of the board. Worst if it affect the
surrounding surface mounted components.

If the set is still under warranty, should any problem arises
and upon return for service, your warranty will be void due
to oil.

Just sharing with you on no sound from my HP6828
this morning. Being using Bluetooth all the while, mysteriously
after disable Bluetooth from device, I found no click or other
sound coming from the speaker. Immediately run a self audio
test from the program provided. Still nothing. So this also
happen even without using the jack. Regain the sound by soft reset.

Perhaps there is more than what we had perceived.
Using the stylus method will be safer, tho excessive probing may
damaged the socket.

My device only installed with Spb backup,Spb Imageer, RhinoCapture,
Pocket Mighty Minds, Oxios CloseApps and apMemo.
Because of testing the tweaks on power issues, I kept my
application program to minimum.

I understand your concern... that's why I never spray the W40 directly into the jack, just apply a little bit using small tiny cotton bud.

My earpiece have been plug in & out for so many times and the problem had never occur anymore.

IMHO, it save me so much trouble to leave my set at their service centre. I will never know whether my set will still come back in perfect condition without any scratches or dust trap under the LCD. sleep.gif

3. LCD changed & solved + no more hissing noise!
4. rom updated!

why take unneccesary risks to DIY, since its still under warranty? let the pros do the job.

I do not have any spare phone, therefore unable to leave my set there for 2-3 days. wacko.gif
Beside, it is quite inconvenience for me to visit the service centre as I stay and work in the east. sowwy.gif

For those who are having the earphone jack problem, please DO NOT try my method if you are not comfortable. Let the expert do the job! cool.gif

hi. for most ppc phones..if you put your phone close to your ear in a quiet room, you should hear a soft 'eeeeeeee' sound. especially. you if pressed on your lcd with more force. previously i had to press my lcd to get rid of my occasion newton rings..then my phone will 'EEEEEEE' & you can hear it even is the phone is an arm away.

hope i am not confusing anyone. now my phone NO 'eeeee' sound at all. anyway, all my volumes are always at max.
