I need to charge my battery almost everyday with my minimum usage of 6828
so i use active chat from HP website to get some help. Here is what I get
I just start trying it, but not sure will it improve my battery usage or not.. still testing...
the chat logs:
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:19 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
Kindly perfrom the below mentioned steps to prevent the battery drain issue:-
1. Disable timeout of Today panel;
2. Set ActiveSync to manual using the fake server method;
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:20 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
Today screen timeout:-
tap start/settings/today/ items tab, uncheck "today timeout".
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:21 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
1.Activesync to manual.
Activesynch always returns to "running programs" even if you stop it . The option for manual is grayed out so, you have to create a fake server source which makes the "manual" option available.
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:21 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
After changing to manual you delete the fake server source and it leaves your connection to your pc on manual. Activesync no longer runs in the background unless you want it
to.
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:22 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
tap Start/programs/activesync - tap menu/add server source- put in anything (1.1.1.1), then tap "next" put in any username/password/domain - you can use the letter "y" for all three , tap "next" then "finish".
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:22 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
on the main activesync screen tap menu/schedule, select manual for both, tap ok.
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:23 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
on the main screen tap menu/options ,highlight the "exchange server" you created and then tap "delete".
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:23 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
now you will be left with your original synch setup with your PC.
And it is set to manual.
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:24 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
3. Also Unchecking "receive all incoming beams"
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:24 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
This all helps in conserving the battery and preventing it from draning faster
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:25 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
Check the perfromance now.
This will definetly help resolve the issue.
end of chat logs
this is chat logs for ROM information:
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:34 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
Further regarding the ROM update
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:34 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
I would like to share with you that the concederned department is working on the issue and as soon it is released you can find it on the HP web site
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:35 PM] -- Simon says:
how long will it take for the new ROM, any idea?
[Monday, October 16, 2006 4:36 PM] -- Sanjay S says:
It is in pipeline and some testing is going and it will be released with in one or two months
end of log
this is all i can get..
hope this help..

Haha I followed the instructions and today my battery drains like open tap. 100% drop to 60% w/o using anything and no phonecalls. Gonna do a hard reset to clear the sheet.

blah.. forever coming up with these mumbo jumbo to save battery but actually we are just trying to bluff ourselves by underutilizing it. Why not say put the phone in the cupboard and not touch it forever? It definately is gonna last much longer.
These companies come up with sub-standard batteries and expect us to try conserve power.

Have been testing it, but i dont see any different.
Last night i hard reset my 6828, re-apply the instruction and "i apply the driver patch from the other TOPIC".
100% last night and this morning 6.45am it was 82%
at least a bit improvement. it used to be 70% or 75%
good luck everyone.
edit: anyone who has try this, pls post up your result.. good or bad?.. thanks

The driver is posted by Mask, i think.
It can be found at this topic
http://www.ppcsg.com/http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=83595&st=40There is a link in that topic to download the driver.
Use at your own risk, I guess.

Have been doing more testing. The latest test was applying the registry changes from here
http://www.ppcsg.com/http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=83954 before i got to sleep arounf 11 something pm, my battery was 98% - 99%, and when i wake up, my battery was 91% this morning around 7.30am.
I have:
Hard reset
apply fake server hack
disable Receiving all incoming beam
disable Timeout for Today Panel
Apply the Driver Patch
Apply the registry on power management (list on above link)
Disable Screen Saver
so far, it is getting better :)
one more thing, I have gone to Service Center and claim for new battery, and will get it next week hopefully.
good luck

this question has been asked before and it has made alot of people question what this option is for.
It is simply the time where the ppc will revert to the today screen, when left in other menus. Like eg you go into settings and left your phone there, then after the x amount of time, the ppc will revert back to the today screen.
Practically a useless function and it is thought to consume unnecessary resources. Just disable it

I have changed my ActiveSync to manual as per the method stated here using fake server.
I would like clarify does that mean I have to open up my Active Sync manually to have my device sync with my PC each time if I want it to be synced?

hi liawkc,
just connect the ppc as usual. by doing this, active sync will not self activate when u are not using it.

How do you disable the screensaver?
Taurean

iirc when the screen saver appear, you tap the screen and hold it there. The options menu will appear and you should be able to disable it from there.

I do find that my battery last a bit longer now after all these changes.
Once again, thanks.
