Full Version: Moving My Documents to SD Card

What I'm trying to do is to sync some files but I don't want it to be in My Documents folder in PPC, I need it to be in my SD Card/My Documents because I'd have tons of files that I want to sync.

I have done my research on this website also other websites but I can't find any clear explanation if the registry tweak would work or not.

I have found two possible ways to move My Documents to SD Card/My Documents:
(both from: http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_twe...uments_storage)

1. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
Mofify\Create the following:
String Bane: FileSyncPath Value: \SD Card\My Documents
Simply create a root folder on your storage card named: My Documents.

2. So the objective is to move ONLY the my documents folder on to the SD card. However, you cannot just copy the folder and it will work; follow these simple steps.

1) Copy the "My Documents" directory and all of its contents in to the root folder of your /storage card.

2. Download a FREE Regedit utility.

3. In the regedit utility, click the top tier (my device) and click "Tools" then "Find", select all 3 options for keys, values and data. Search for the term "/my documents".

4. Simply go through each key (Approx. 25 of them) and insert the string "/Storage Card" before the "/my documents". The double slash seams to be important on Windows Mobile 5. It tells the o/s to go to the absolute root.

4. Save all changes, exit and reboot. You now have a Pocket PC with tons of storage.

WARNING: Do not attempt to move any windows, program directories or other memory resident objects. If you do this your Pocket PC will freeze and be slower then $@^# because the bus for the SD card is slower then the internal EEPROM.

I haven't tried it myself because I don't want to risk messing up my registry, not until I figure out how to back up my registry first. Can anyone please give me a hint how to back up the registry in case I mess up?

Or has anyone tried the above methods? which one would work? the second one is very tempting.

Or does anyone have any other solution beside the above methods? Or can anyone recommend me any third party software besides MightSync. I know that there is a free one but I can't remember the name.

Thanks
