Hi all,

For those Dopod 838 Pro owners, some of you might experience that even though you are connected to a WIFI network and verified that the connection is fine, but PocketIE still tries to use UMTS/GPRS to connect to the internet.

I also have this issue and I am baffled by what is going on until I discovered something yesterday. I suspect this have to do with the status notification of the Wireless Manager to PocketIE (or other browser/apps that needs internet connectivity)

To illustrate what I meant, you have to perform the following registry tweak. This registry tweak will show the Operator Name, Wifi and Bluetooth status as a Today plugin.

Adding Wireless Manager Today Item: WiFi, BT and Phone Connection Status

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items]
Create "Wireless" use Key

"Flags"=dword:00000000
"Options"=dword:00000000
"DLL"="netui.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004

After implementing this tweak, you will see the following:

UMTS SingTel (or some other operator's name and network type)
Wi-Fi: Off Bluetooth: Off

And if you launch Wireless Manager and enable WiFi, the following status should appear if you have successfully logged in:

UMTS SingTel (or some other operator's name and network type)
Wi-Fi: SSID name of your Wifi network Bluetooth: Off

I noticed that everytime if the "Wi-Fi:" status is not displayed correctly, that is either displayed as a blank entry or showing "Connecting" status, PIE will seem to assume that the Wi-Fi connection is not working properly and will try to use UMTS/GPRS for access.

This seems to be a bug on the notification stack of the WM5.0 Wireless Manager.

Anyway, to resolve this, just disable the Wifi and enable it again until you see the normal status for the Wi-Fi connection.

Enjoy. This seems to work for me ever since yesterday until now. I can sleep in peace now. w00t.gif
