Dear all,
No matter how attractive the prices of storage media cards (i.e. SD, Mini-SD, Micro-SD, etc) are now, do
test them with your actual Pocket PC device at the shop before paying for them, especially when the storage media card that you are interested in is 2GB or more.
Generally, testing most storage cards that are 1GB or less, isnt really necessary. How to test whether a storage media card is compatible:1) A storage media card is
most obviously incompatible with your Pocket PC when your device prompts you to format the card the moment you insert it into your device. (Note: If you tap on 'Yes', the Storage Media Card is likely to be formatted into an unusable partitioned form by your Pocket PC).
2) If there are no 'format' prompts upon insertation, go to Start>Settings>System>Memory>Storage Card to see if the media card is detected by your device.
3) Pay for the card, ONLY IF, 1) and 2) are both ok.
If the retailer does not allow you to test a 2GB (or more) storage card on your device, just walk away. Note that even if the retailer assures you that a particular storage media card would surely work on your particular Pocket PC model, it is still no guarantee, due to batch differences at the manufacturer's, etc. Therefore, there is little sense in compiling a list of whichever 2GB (or more) storage cards are compatible with whichever Pocket PC device. For the same reason, buying a 2GB (or more) storage card off internet sites would seem risky.
Note also that once you have paid in full, it is very hard to get a full refund from Singaporean retailers. Most would only allow you to exchange for other goods of equivalent value, even when it was one of their representatives who may had assured you that the storage media card would surely work on your Pocket PC in the first place.
Moral of the story? Save yourself from unpleasantries by testing a storage media card properly before paying for one!

Since we are on the topic of Storage card, has anyone has any problem with Kingston 2GB mini SD card on their 6965?
I did substantial research and i believe it should work. Afterall, it is mini SD format which is supported on 6965.
Well, unfortunately my case could be unique in the sense that i am not able to insert the card into the card slot on my ppc. I compare it with my V3 1GB mini SD card and don't see noticeable physical difference.
I tried writing some files to the card using a card reader but it returns an error. Somehow i suspect mine is those 1% which slips through the QC test. Just want to confirm it is indeed so and whoever bought their Kingston's 2GB mini SD card works.
I have since return it to Trends Micro awaiting a replacement unit.

Not quite true

. ActiveFoto (SLS) and Alan Photo (SLS) did. Best Bargain (SLS) was considerably rude when I asked to test; so I walked.

Bro rahelio,
No offense, but I wouldnt consider that testing at all

, more like a "pay-and-exchange".
What if the first card you wanted to buy in the first place was at a good price and the "other" brands they subsequently offer you are not? You may then be forced to accept some other product that you didnt want at all.

Yup, it is still not so secure getting a 2GB and above secure digital (SD) card for the reasons given by Aficionado, notwithstanding its name. Better to test it before securing the purchase. Applies for all types of cards. (sorry for the pun)

Just a note for people looking for 2G micro SD.
I was looking for 2G micro SD at SLS and most of the shops were not carrying. But I was told that the reason was that it was very unstable.
I'm sure Dopod 838 pro owners are itching for it.

I just bought a Kingston 2GB mini-SD from Active Photo in SLS, got it home and lucky for me it worked on my new iPAQ 6965. Then I inserted the mini-SD with teh adapter into my laptop, and it could not read it, asking it to be formatted. I formatted it first with FAT32, and inserted it back into iPAQ, the iPAQ no longer detect the card. I then formatted it with FAT, and same thing, iPAQ cant find the card. Any advice, anyone?

oh no... i've been doing this "pay-and-exchange" thing all along... normally i tell them i am buying & would like to test, but what if it doesn't work & they say no more stock but you can buy these other brands (which are not at a good price, or inferior brands) & no refunds allowed... oops, fortunately this hasn't happened yet.
even if the card has lifetime warranty with 1-to-1 exchange, always test the card first to save yourself an extra trip back to Sim Lim or the service centre!

SanDisk 2G MicroSD is working just fine on my HTC TyTn. I have not seen any other brands selling 2G MicroSD but am sure they are. SanDisk is quite good in my opinion thats probably why they are number 1. The only thing that bothers me is that they never offer lifetime warranty just 2 or 5 years warranty.

Why insist on so called lifetime warranty? If u read the T&C carefully, most of it means while the product still in production. It is the lifetime of the product itself not yr life

For me, 5 yrs warranty is more than enuf :)

I'm using a 4GB SD from Transcend with Dopod 900. Got it from Memory World, I did ask to test it when I called to inquire, they were most happy for me to test.
In fact, I was asked to test to confirm it works before they asked for payment. Only upon confirmation did they then generate the invoice.

Bro venusforu,
Bro tcs is right. Lifetime warranty for electronics doesnt mean your lifetime; it refers to its particular product life cycle! Maybe the following post would be clearer

. You should take it back to ActiveFoto to ask for an exchange.

It may not faulty on the SD card, try other card reader and see how. My Sandisk mini SD 2GB was not working on my home notebook's card reader, but it work on my office external card reader.
It was my experience that when at first can't read on my home notebook's card reader, but it work well in dopod 818 pro. I bring back to M1 shop ask for the refund. They prove to me it can read and write on their card reader, LL went back to my office, with the ext. card reader I copy the MMSD 2005 into it. Then put into my 818 pro, it working fine.

I recently bought a 2GB Kingston mini SD card from Active foto. Thankfully I tested it before I leave, cause the card could not be inserted into the card slot of my 6828 too. Asked to try another piece, and it worked fine. Lesson: ALWAYS TEST THE CARD!!
BTW Active foto had the best price $58.20 for 2GB.

Hi I have same probelm with my Kingston 2G miniSD as well. No problems in my Treo 750v, but when put into adaptor, cannot be detected in my son's laptop, a compaq, my laptop, a NEC, my office laptop a HP but when I went to Sim Lim to buy some things, I asked the shop to help check, it was detected and could read write on their laptop, a IBM.
I dare not format it as I have dumped a lot of stuff inside and too lazy to re-do. So anyone have a solution for this or do I have to get an external card reader?
Thanks for the help.

Just so you know, some laptops/desktops purposefully come with readers that can't read certain cards.
I had to swap out my reader of a 4 year old HP Pavillion - it can't read anything > 512MB. Memory Sticks, SD cards, you name it. HP has never issued a firmware or driver replacement for that particular reader, so no choice, and you usually don't discover it untill you need it. Be careful when buying from OEMs like Dell, HP, Compaq etc - you never know when you're foisted old media drives with limited support, and no recourse because they'll quote something out of an obscure part of the EULA.
(I also have a DVD+-R Writer that refuses to accept -R discs).
