Heya all,

happened to be browsing around and found this development called batteryplus.

The author has been kind enough to put in a battery status, device locking and the famous omapclock. The plugin reflects the above as well as your device's operating frequency, which i find the visual feedback very appealing.

You can set the device to overclock all the time, without having to put in a notification. Easy. And the added advantage is that you do not have to wait for 15 sec between on/offs (for device to register a "wakeup") for omapclock.exe to kick in.

Do note that the highest available setting 260 is actually 240Mhz (the author practises safety first). You can set it higher, but you'll have to do so via omapclock directly. And this will go back to 260/240 when you switch your device back on.

The device locking is very much like the original.

To download:

Thanks ikarus

STRICTLY FOR OMAP PROCESSORS ONLY, ie 838, 818pro etc

*ED* You can only gain access to the settings via \settings\today\
select the plugin and click options...

Wow! I love it just for the simple battery bar and operator info. The CPU clock doesn't work (shows 0MHz) but everything else is just spiffy! Thanks thescum! It's amazing how you manged to find this little utility!
thescum
Heya chak,

are you using a TI omap cpu?

if yes,
run the app, (via settings\today\items\batteryStatus)
under Functions, check the "always show CPU speed"

and
if you want to overclock all the time
then set "omap clock to" your desired speed,
+ check the "set clock on wakeup".

Hope this helps.
Chak
Thanks for your concern Mr. Scum! I have actually moved away from using a Qtek9100 to a 6965, but I like the simple battery and operator information, I am using this anyways! Don't have much need for the overclocking features actually... the battery on the 6965 is bad enough as it is.

One thing that can be a little annoying is that whenever the device comes out of standby, the plugin on the Today Screen kinda gets blanked out. It comes back after a few seconds, with the battery meter showing "-1%" and then rights itself again a few moments later.

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like - the white bar is the plugin!

[attachmentid=7477]

And here it is working after a couple of seconds...

[attachmentid=7478]

Any tweaking suggestions is much appreciated. Alternatively, if someone can suggest another Today plug-in with the same functionality, I'd be most grateful!

thescum
if you wanna have a battery function, i'd ask u to try psw metrix, a freeware that shows the battery as well as RAM, Storage card and ROM left.

Hello all. Has anyone faced problems uninstalling this plugin? 1 week dopod 818 pro owner. grin.gif
thescum
so long as you don't disturb the contents in the "\windows\AppMgr\" folder, you should be able to uninstall this without any hassle. As an added precaution, manually switch the plugin off from "start menu\settings\today\"

Yo,

Just bought my 818Pro today and wanting to overclock it. Now, people have been talking about the OmapClock program to do overclock. Which one is better? OmapClock or Batteryplus?

Thanks
thescum
omapclock is included with Batteryplus.

Would recommend batteryplus for these reasons:
1. You have visual feedbacks when overclocking, its speed amongst others
2. You don't have to worry about setting a device on notification for it to overclock all the time.
3. Due to 2, you won't have to wait for 15sec (for the system to register a power off), in order for the notification queue to execute the notification to overclock.

Points 2 & 3 are taken care of automatically.

Mr. TheScum,

Just making sure that I understand this fully. So, with the battery plus, if I choose 260 that means that it is actually running at 240?

And you said if I want to set it higher than 240, I have to use Omapclock? I see that the highest one in the dropdown list is actually 286, which means 266, that should actually be enough for me to set. Is this correct?

I'm goal is to reach at least 250-260. As long as I can use Skype. What speed would you recommend. I understand I have to do a step clocking, right now I'm running at 234 (in Batteryplus) and I will increase it probably in 2 days time.

thescum
Quite honestly, in some apps like sktools, you'll have a showing of 260, however, in others you'll see the clock speed at 240, even if you don't change the settings.

In batteryplus 260 = 240 in omapclock (again if memory serves me right).
Again, these discrepant reflection of clockspeeds are not linear, i.e. i don't think you can add 20 or subtract 20MHz when you alternate or get readings from different programs.
Unfortunately, you can;t go much higher than 260(240) in batteryplus.

Have used skype on my old pro, and managed to get pretty good response, even my customer didn't make complain about responsitivity. Latency was within acceptable levels associated with VOIP on a PC.

Good idea to overclock a step at a time to ensure you get stability.
Based on omapclock, i could only go up to 252 for stability and reliabiliy.
Others could go higher, some could not. Good luck.

Yo Mr. thescum,

Today, I set my batteryplus today to 260 from 247, but when I open up TCPMP 0.71, it shows that it's only 226. I'm confused, which one is correct?

Is there a real clock speed program?

Thanks!

PS: Still overclocking patiently everday 2 - 3 days.

thescum
as mentioned earlier, not too sure what's the real clock speed, or rather which application reflects the real clockspeed.

Even in, BatteryStatus(BatteryPlus) 260 = 240 in omapclock.

*Just found out that SKTools and Battery Status reflect the true clockspeed of the device.
hotsoup
Hi thescum,
Can it be done in Dopod S300, smart phone series??

Thanks
thescum
from what i know hotsoup, it doesn't support smartphones.

Not advisable to try, unless you have a good backup procedure in place.

Thanks bro. I bought 1 for my wife and expecting the goods arrival in 1 to 2 days time. Thougth of overclocking since it's still raw as what i previously done to my D 818
thescum
do let us know your findings, if it does work though, you'd probably have done a big service to our smartphone breathern
hotsoup
No problem but what is the impact if the thing don't work?
thescum
a hard reset, i guess ;) good luck
orion_ct
Hi,

Sorry, i do not know how to install this thing though copy the file. There is not exe file...all xml, 001...etc file, what should i do to overclock it when needed?
thescum
heya orion_ct, you have to copy the installation file (its denoted with a .cab) over to your ppc, via activesync, or directly to your storage card.

Then navigating to the location that you've copied to in a file explorer, double click the cab to start the installation process.

For more on how to setup thereafter look at post #5 of this thread.
orion_ct
Hey thanks a lot ....successfully install !!!!
orion_ct
Hi after install, do see the batery bar, but how about the Omp over clock turn on? anywhere to over clock it? But i can use skype successfully too. Then how to turn it off? I do not see any other programs call omp clock etc...
thescum
to turn on overclocking...

run the app, (via settings\today\items\batteryStatus)
under Functions, check the "always show CPU speed" (this is to have a visual effect of the processor speed on the today screen)

and
if you want to overclock all the time
then set "omap clock to" your desired speed,
+ check the "set clock on wakeup".

this utility is meant for those of us that want overclocking all the time.
omapclock.exe is found in \windows

for selective overclocking (i.e. only overclocking for skype) do this.

make a file called "overclockSkype" (note no extension) on your pc's notepad (if you don't have resco)
in notepad type this,
40#"\windows\OmapClock.exe" -clock 240 -launch "\Windows\SkypeLauncher.exe" -restore
Save the file and if necessary rename the .txt extension, before transferring to PPC's \windows\start menu\programs.

Thank very much, it was easy and made my Garmin Que run faster especially on calculating the route. I started 2 day ago. Enjoy!

I've been using BatterStatus V. 0.03.201 and works well on my 818Pro.

This version has more functionalities like memory and battery meters, call timers, temperature.. etc

and also in this version the max clock speed can be set to 315MHz... but havent tried yet.. im only using 260MHz on my device

see HERE for more details...
thescum
hey d'artanganan,
thanks for the heads up, am now using this on my 838pro, and must say its a keeper.

However, have noticed something really minor , my cpu speed is now reflecting as 300mhz.

version 1.04.201 beta 3 released (build 180)

new features include customization of the batterystatus plugin, see example below
user posted image

You can define how many lines you want and what you want on each line, with a bit of xml coding. No don't worry ;) just have a look see at the default.xml (found in "\windows\batterystatus", and with the powers of cut and paste, you'll have customized batterystatus for the info you most want to see, how you want and where you want.

Have fun.

Oh yah, have been playing with this beta for some time now (abt 2 weeks) and its stable as stable can get on a WM device, at least on the Asus P525.
xspace
thescum: What are the softwares you installed on your PPC? BTW, you using which model?

thescum
am now using a p525.
have quite a few apps, on the today screen namely, the spb suite that includes weather 1.71, diary 2.5 beta, backup 1.5.5, pocket plus 3.2.0; Batterystatus 11.04.201 Beta3; Indibar 2.6; Mytools 1.51; Newsbreak 2.0; Phonealarm 1.60Beta10.

but i think we digress, maybe you'll like to pm me the ones that interest you in particular, and i'll be more willing to help wherever i can;)

Hi thescum

I read people on other formus using batter status have battery draining issue? Anyone experience battery draining here after installing it?
thescum
heya Sandyt,

could i just check these settings with you and even recommend the following:

1. If your "More indicators" is ticked
try putting > "30" (sec) Refreshrate. Mine is set at the default "5", but i experience not much in the way of battery drain.

2. Set your "CPU-Utilization Refresh" to at least 1000ms.

Hope this resolves your problem, if it is indeed batterystatus causing the drain. Do you have other apps, today plugins that poll the battery. You might want to increase the polling time or refresh rate on those too.

Thanks thscum. I will try those settings for sure.

hi... tried to overclock my dopod c800

what is the best speed to set as ..? tried to set to highest but hang ...
thescum
No worries Sandyt and good luck :)

heya wakao82, based on my dabbling with the 818pros, you might wanna set 260 as your baseline. Coz of varying levels of impurities in a processor, the speed settings that may work for another c800 may not work on yours.

Setting the baby at 260 shouldn't cause an issue for the TI OMAP 850. You might then wanna experiment to step up or down to get optimum performance without sacrificing stability. Good Luck.
wakao82
oic ... thanks for ya advice ...

but after uninstalling this software, my receiption of my network seems to be quite unstable le ... after a few hard reset then now a bit normal already ...
