I've just released another freeware to make life simpler. grin.gif

PlaylistMgr

Requirement: gsgetfile.dll (Download directly here)
Update: gsGetFile.dll is now included in the ZIP/CAB files.

PlaylistMgr allows you to load, save, create or edit your playlists. Currently, it is only able to handle ASX files (WMP Playlists). What's different in this playlist editor from other playlist editors is that this one supports unicode. Also, this software is compatible with square screens as well as QVGA landscape modes, but it's not VGA-aware though. So, you can save playlists which have chinese songs in them. You can also use chinese characters to name the playlist file.

These features are not supported:
1) M3U Playlists
2) ID3 Tag

If I figure out how to save unicode M3U playlists, I'll add in M3U support and also allows more audio formats to be added to the playlist.

Here is one more screenshot.

If you put in Windows folder, any software which uses gsGetFile.dll can access it. If you put in the same folder as this program, then only this program can access the file. So, the best location is the windows folder.

I just thought of what I can do for the next version. I can add in a dialog to display all the WMP playlists on the device. Then you can select a playlist and choose either to edit it, delete it or play it in WMP. Stay tuned.... w00t.gif

Woohoo...thanks! grin.gif Something like Playlist Manager for SMP? It was a great freeware but now the author like given up ....wasted wacko.gif
vicott
Actually I got the idea while looking at the playlist manager in WMP9 and below. It's a shame WMP10 and above no longer have the user-friendly playlist manager, which is my main motivation for developing this software.

Version 0.2 has been released to include the updates mentioned above.

Version 0.2.1 is not an essential update if you already have v0.2 as the changes are very minor UI enhancements. Here's the new screenshot. If you notice, the icon for "open playlist" has changed, so as not to confuse with the folder icon on the right.

yipee...thanks Vicott. Great job. grin.gif whistle.gif

I just realised that the M3U format is not so unicode-friendly. That's why there is a need to change the regional settings whenever one needs to save a playlist with unicode characters (chinese filenames) and also when opening the playlist in music players like PocketMusic.

Fortunately, the ASX format (WMP playlist) is unicode-friendly. That's why I was able to include unicode support in this freeware. So, I've decided not to work on adding M3U support in this freeware. Anyway, the media players which use the M3U format should have playlist editors much much much better than the non-existing one in WMP10. tongue.gif whistle.gif wacko.gif blink.gif confused.gif brooding.gif sleep.gif

Looks like the unicode support is really working well since even the Korean users have no problems with it. w00t.gif

Anybody else have screenshots of the program working in other languages (other than chinese and korean) requiring unicode to show here?

Hi, 2d0x. One of the screenshots show an error message. Does it mean the saved (created/edited) playlist is not working?

The program isn't signed. But you can just select yes when asked whether you want to run the unsigned program.

Just checking, these are the files required:
1) gsgetfile.dll - "\Windows\" folder
2) PlaylistMgr.exe - any folder

If you download the CAB package instead of the ZIP package, both files will be installed to the correct location automatically.
geraldhan
i downloaded the cab file, managed to install it, extracted the required file to windows but it cant run the program, saying its not signed or some part is missing..my phone is the 818 pro by the way..i tried reinstalling but its still the same..

Did you select "Yes" when asked whether to run the unsigned application? Program signature is not really a big issue as it does not mean the program will not run.
geraldhan
that screen to select doesn't appear at all... all other of your programs works on my phone though..
vicott
That's weird. That means the problem could lie with gsGetFile.dll. Any other users having the same problem?

Can you try this software to see if it works? This is another similar software which also uses the gsGetFile.dll. Do let me know if this program is able to run on your device so that I can check if it's an issue with gsGetFile.dll.
geraldhan
ah..it works already..thanks..i copied the required file to both windows and the program folder then installed in the phone and the sd card..thanks for everything ..sorry for the trouble..
vicott
Phew! Good that it works now. grin.gif

On a side note, I have already received a suggestion to work on for version 0.3. There may be some users who subscribe to podcast feeds. If all the media files are gathered in one folder, it may be useful for a program to create and update the playlist to include all the media files automatically. The playlist should also sort the media files according to date/time starting from the most recent file.

Anybody subscribe to podcast feeds as well? Actually I don't, but this suggestion sounds useful.

Hi, Vicott. When I start PlaylistMgr 0.2.1, Open Playlist, I choose necessary playlist and I press button Play at me it is started WMP, but the mistake (see up on scr.3) gives out. If I simply tap on playlist (not from program PlaylistMgr) all works correctly. And I do not like one moment in PlaylistMgr 0.2.1: Open Playlist - > Cancel - > Open Playlist - > Cancel - > etc. Why the playlists quantity is doubled, tripled, etc.? Why and what for there are recurrences? Excuse my bad English.
vicott
Thanks. I will fix the bugs in the next update.
vicott

In case you guys are unaware, the latest version is actually 0.5.2. I'm currently working on v0.6 which will include improved UI and bug fixing.

Btw, for those who are using the software on a WM5 device, can you tell me if the loading speed for "Open Playlist" and "Add Media=>Select Folder" is really that terrible? Personally, the loading time of those dialogs only take up 3 seconds on my WM2003 device. I'm told that it takes up more than 20 seconds on O2 Xda Neo (similar as Dopod 818 Pro). What about other devices? How long does it take?
Symphony
Hi Vicott,

I tested it on my 6818 (WM5). Took about 8-9 seconds on both "Open Playlist" and "Add Media=>Select Folder".

Thanks for the info. So it looks like O2 Xda Neo is terrible on performance. One user (using O2 Xda Neo and 1GB storage card) reported that it took 27.5 seconds for the folder dialog to load.

yupz..

i did both kinds

1) create a new playlist from your sw...appear only after soft reset..

2) edit a playlist that i have created originally from htc..
open the playlist then add a song to it..aft that select the playlist again to save
but the changes are not reflected in htc even after soft reset.

btw does creating a new htc playlist from your sw need soft reset everytime?

paiseh for askin so many qns
vicott
HHmm...I haven't tried creating playlists using HTC Audio Manager before. Not sure if there are issues.

As for reflecting of the changes, I'm still not sure how to refresh them without soft reset. Tried disable and re-enable TF3D but no luck. So, what I do is to make many changes at one go before I save all and soft reset. brooding.gif
