hi waYin,

currently, the Dopod ROM upgrade is not available for download yet...the only way to get it is to go to the Dopod service centre or office to have the techs flash for you...

hi advin,

when you flash a new ROM, you will need to hard reset your device...and everything in the ROM portion will be gone when you do that...just re-install every program from scratch again and also recreate another new Partnership with your Activesync 4.1 and then resynchronise back your Contacts/Appointments/Task back to your device after the new ROM upgrade...

Wah, (like mentioned above) the 838 rom is out. Nice w00t.gif

This make my day. I am downloading now but unfortunately, I won't be able to flash until later.

On the website, they only mention that the rom updates two things but I assume it's more than that. Is there anyway to get a complete list of updates other than lots of trial and error?

Also, I have a question. I assume that the rom will include all of the recent hotfixes and patches that have already been available for download. Is my thinking correct or will I need to apply those individually?

Yes, I guess it should be this way also. However, guess we can't be sure. This is why I hope we can find an "official" list of changes with the new rom. Of course, users will list what they have found but how can we know if we find all changes smile.gif

Before i flashed my ROM, i backed up all my stuff to my SD card...unfortunately all apps runing from my SD after that had to be reinstalled..thats the lecheh part..all systems seem to be working fine after the ROM upgrade..another feature that i discovered is that now when you look for Wireless NEtworks..it is actually indicated if the networks avaliable are secure or not..pretty nifty..they have also reworked the Voice Commander and on the desktop they have this thing called IM.TV...supposed to be some link to Taiwan i thnk...quite a few fearures added..will add them in after i do more exploring...

Can anyone advice on this? Can we just restore the backup after ROM update? If i do so, what will be the cause? Will it revert back to the old ROM? confused.gif grin.gif Install all the app 1 by 1 will take up so much of time and the worst is to set it up the way i want. I need to put back all the information again manually.

After a ROM upgrade, some system files in the visible storage ROM are changed. If you do a full restore of a backup made using a previous ROM, likelihood is that you will overwrite the new files and may result in software conflicts causing system instability.

So it is best to only restore
* data files that you need like your WORD documents, your pictures etc
* PIM data - calendar, tasks, email

If you use SPB Backup, backup everything using "Customised Backup" option, so that during restore you can select what you want to restore

Software cannot be restored, you will have to reinstall one by one again.

Usually ROM upgrades will include
- hotfixes and patches previously released
- enhancements to the OS
- upgraded applications (eg. voicedial, pocket outlook, camera, etc)
- improved radio signal

Ah...wireless reception has definetely improved, but telephone reception still i feel is the same ( tested by goin to the basement of my office floor). Overall the response seems faster when opening applications as well, but unfortunately they have not come up wif a fix to PERMANENTLY close an application when we click on the "X", we still have to do it the old fashioned way by killing them off from the MEMORY part. I wanted to ask you guys, we used to have PHOTO CONTACTS as part of our default programs, but i don't seem to have it now...hw fo i get this reinstalled? Any ideas? Ahh..before i forget...the display of pictures and overall look of everthing seems to be sharper ( my imagination?). Well..thats as much as i can figure for now... smile.gif More if i come upon anything...

hi guys,

yes, the Photo Contacts thats present at the XDA II, XDA II Mini, XDA IIs and XDA IIi is not present in WM5.0 devices produced by HTC...I guess the reason is that, the default Contacts application already has an option for you to insert in a Picture and then showing up whenever the particular person calls you...

I think it has improved..it's faster..but as our bros here menition..it kills the memory and always must go to setting-system-memory-running programs-stop all

Using a task manager like GSPocketMagic++ can solve the need to keep accessing the Running Programs.

So far, no ROM updates have that close app feature. I thing it's a MS thing, if they wanted to implement in the first place, they would have put that feature into WM5.0 but they didn't.

I never had photo contacts on my 838. You had it before on 838? I only ever had the built in photo contacts.

I also thought the look of everything seems sharper. At closer look I thought maybe they just improved the quality of the default icons but I'm not sure. When I first thought about this, I also thought maybe I am just imagining it grin.gif

Also noticed the addition of two new splash screens on start up. First, the HTC splash screen, then the standard dopod splash screen (which was always there), then a windows mobile splash screen.

Went to Dopod web-site just now and found that 838 has a new ROM update.
Enneis
The only thing that is stopping me from purchasing 818 is the support for A2DP.
Still wondering will dopod release the rom with A2DP support or not. Scared later bought already but dopod didn't release the rom. Rom update for 818 seems taking very long.

Heya Enneis,

don't think a2dp is out for any Prophet as yet (even imate's jammin and qtek's S200 rom updates this month do not include the feature).

As such, i don't think it will be available just as yet for the 818Pro. This ver 2.x ROM update should only include aku2.

Do you have any problems with MagicButton on the 818P?
The GSPocketMagic++ may cause a bit of lag at startup if you have a lot of applications on your device; I found that Skype can be a possible culprit.

If you installed Skype on your SD card, then
(1) Open up File Explorer
(2) Go to \windows\start menu\programs\
(3) Create a new folder called ".skype", the folder can be any name but make sure that it has a "." preceding it so that folder won't be processed by gspocketmagic++ at startup
(4) Move the Skype shortcut from \windows\start menu\programs to the ".skype" folder

This should save you a few seconds during bootup...it saved me 15 seconds on my Exec

Yes Dopod will definitely release a new ROM with A2DP support after the upcoming one.

I would recommend that you buy your Dopod now and get familiarise with it these few days before the new ROM comes out.

If you want an alternative to GSPocketmagic++ and MagicButton, you can try out.
Just like GSPocketMagic++, it has a X button that really closes plus cascading menu
