Hi:

Hello all:

For those using outlook2002, u'll notice that singapore holiday are only supplied up to 2004. To install PH from 2006-2012, goto

download public holiday 2005-2012

Download "Holidays for 2006 through 2012" and run it. U can then sync to your handheld with holidays added in.

For more info on how to customise your outlook to show public holiday, goto one of the related post in this section.

If u need chinese new year dates up to 2012, install the HongKong holiday package. But the problem is that after installing HK holiday, u'll find lots of other holidays like "Buddha birthday etc etc" which u don't need. To clear all other unnecessary holidays, at outlook click: View, current view ,
event. You'll see a list of public holiday installed. Take away holidays that u don't't need except for chinese new year and those standard singapore holiday.

Hope that this helps.

To download Good Friday dates up to 2012, install "Christian religious holidays" and goto [view, current view, events] to take away all other festivals except Good Friday-Western which is the actual Good Friday celebrated in Singapore.

I can't get the rest of the festivals such as Haji, puasa ,vesak and depavali as they are to be calculated on the individual almanac when the time comes I think.

This adding of calendar option can be found in calendar settings in my outlook 2003 itself, but its good as a shortcut for those who couldn't find it.

Is there a strictly singapore holidays import file?
Ionized
I simplified the importing process of Singapore PH events into Outlook for my own use and I'm sharing the import files with this community. I've attached a zip file which includes 2 Outlook .hol files.

They are:
sgOutlook_fixed_dates_2006-2012.hol
sgOutlook_movable_dates_2006.hol

The first one contains Singapore holidays from 2006-2012 found on http://www.outlook-tips.net/ . The holidays are:
New Year's Day
Chinese New Year (1st day)
Chinese New Year (2nd day)
Good Friday - Western
Labor Day - May Day
National Day
Christmas Day

The 2nd one contains the rest of the local holidays for 2006 only.
Hari Raya Haji
Vesak Day
Deepavali
Hari Raya Puasa
Hari Raya Haji

Before you start using these files, you may want to goto View/Arranged By/Current View/Events (in Outlook 2003) and remove previously added holidays by highlighting and deleting them in order to avoid duplicate events. Double click the first .hol file to start adding the events. Select the only option, i.e. Singapore and click OK. Repeat the process with the second .hol file. When prompted "Holidays for Singapore are already installed. Do you want to install them again?", click Yes. The order for running the .hol files is not important. Lasty, do a sync and you will have the holidays in your PDA. grin.gif

If anyone can give me the dates of Vesak Day, Deepavali and the Muslims holidays for 2007 and later, I'll be happy to update the import files.

Thanks burpz! Very nice info indeed.

Since I cannot edit my previous post now, I'll just include a third Outlook .hol file that contains the below movable holidays for 2007.

Vesak Day
Hari Raya Puasa
Deepavali
Hari Raya Haji

Open the attached zip file and run the .hol file as per method described in my previous post. This will complete Singapore public holidays for 2007.

I just hope they won't move the dates again. wink.gif

PS: I did not mark 2 Jan 2007* and 20 February 2007** as holidays on the calendar since these are "implied" public holidays.

Hi danielcheong,

To download the zip file, you right-click on the link and select "Save Target As...". If you see "index.htm" in the File name field, rename it to "whatever-filename-you-like.zip". Double-click on your renamed zip file and it should open correctly.

Thanks for the instructions and the files! Very useful indeed!

You have to download the data to your desktop Outlook and sync the data to your device when it is connected via Activesync. Strangely i can only find Hari Raya Puasa/Haji and Deepavali in my calendar thats all.
fkfs9
i've added those onto my PC outlook and those holidays appeared on the calendar but somehow on my PPC, nothing appears.

I've already set my activesync to sync with my PC's calendar but still doesnt work..

Can anyone help to troubleshoot?
fkfs9
finally got it into my calendar already.

Haven't checked this forum in a while. Sorry for the long reply.

I just want to clarify that the above file in post #24 is an add-on for 2008 movable holiday dates only, i.e. Vesak Day, Deepavali, Hari Raya Puasa and Haji for the year 2008.

You must install sgOutlook_fixed_dates_2006-2012.hol (inside sgOutlook.zip) in my earlier post #7, in conjunction with this add-on in order to use it correctly.

The reason is the above mentioned movable holidays in Singapore cannot be determined years in advance. They are only decided within the year or year before. The rest of the public holidays are predeterminable and have fixed dates. The fixed dates for 2008 are already included in the very first installation (sgOutlook_fixed_dates_2006-2012.hol). I did not add the fixed dates in the add-on. If you are not careful with duplicate dates, you will create redundancies in your PPC's noficiation database queue thus hogging your resources.

If you wish to get all public holidays on a yearly basis instead, you may wish to check out Ministry of Manpower (Note: This link will most probably become invalid next year). You may need to know how to convert iCal format into your PPC calendar though.

I think I'll stop attaching add-ons in the future, so as to avoid confusions like this.
