Hi all, cool.gif

Just would like to share some of my ideas & experiences here..

I was out of Singapore for the past 3 weeks. One day.....my biggest worry happened on my BenQ p50----> hard reset!!
All of my programs r lost & i got to reinstall all the programs. (somehow i accidentally delete the "sprite backup" file)
i was very sad as i only have a few ppc programs in my laptop. Most of my important & useful programs are in my desktop cry.gif

When i was browsing my window explorer, try to look for other ppc program... Suddenly a great idea come into my mind! w00t.gif
Why don't i try to use MortButtons to link all of my program *.exe file to a button?? so that i could just activate the program without reinstall it?? and after i tried, this ideas really works for most of the program!!!

So, my idea to save memory in our PPC is....
1) Install all of the program in memory card. (except some of the "critical" program such as today plugin)
2) Do a hard reset on your PPC. Hence, all the memory in ppc are free.
3) Install MortButtons and map all the "exe" file into a button.
4) Activate the program by pressing the button u mapped instead of using "PROGRAMS" menu. (there is no more program shortcut under "PROGRAMS" menu)
5) Install the program that u think it is neccessary to load in main memory.

By doing this way, i think i can save lots of memory as i notice sometimes even if i choose to install the program in storage card, it will still eat up some of our main memory space.

Please feel free to feedback your finding if you try this method. i personally find that this is a great way to save our precious main memory. hee hee.... grin.gif

It works only for some. Those are standalone executables, but the lack of libraries and what not can kill it.

Almost 100% of freeware can be run without installation, I usually extract the files from the application CAB file manually... normally, only Today plugins needs a set of settings in the registry to work, the rest will just run after renaming them properly... have tried not less than 100 of them without a single installation, the Add/Remove applet has always been empty for all my PPC, :)

One method of saving memory is to remove unnecessary files, I usuaully excludes text, language and help files from the application.

For setup, I'm using a complicated method with tools from the Windows Mobile SDK.

I built 2 CAB files and store all the application files on the storage card. 1st CAB file will customize the PPC, copy and setup the application, remove unwanted files and create shortcuts. 2nd CAB file contains the setup for M1 services.

After a hard reset, I just run the 2 CAB files, restart and the 90% of the PPC setup is done. (PS: 10% go for some bluetooth pairing, Wi-Fi connection and etc, don't have time to fully integrate them into the CAB files yet)

Forget to mentioned that I'm using cLaunch to launch most of the application, and it's settings are store in a file call claunch.dat in the \Windows directory.

Configure the application once, than backup the claunch.dat to your storage card. After every hard reset, just replace the claunch.dat and everything will returns to your saved settings.

It works on WM2003 up to WM5, :D
