IMHO, the factory setup of the camera on Dopod 838 was a real bummer, the camera was simply a piece of junk, :(

After sampling of more that 100 photos, I finally find some settings to make the camera takes decent photos.

The most important setting is the file format, change to BMP from JPEG! This will make the photos many times better even without further adjustment...

2nd, green was almost lost completely in the default settings, change the Hue to 3 or 2. Personally I find prefer the output when Hue is set to 3.

3rd, white was too "shiny", change Brightness to 100 or lower seems to reduce the shining effect in some case... another settings that can reduce the effect is the Saturation, change it to 5, but this modification also make the colours too saturated... experiment it yourself to get your own preferred settings... for me, brightness is 100 and saturation remains at 4.

4th... battery too low again, charging it for further tests...

How about you, do you have any tips to share on the camera?

Feel free to share your opinions on my findings too, I may have made some mistakes due to the amount of settings I tried, sometime got confused... :)

Hopefully, this thread will let Dopod 838 users enjoy their camera a little more, :D

When u are taking normal shots, make sure u switch the lens to normal instead of macro.

this is a common mistake..... including myself. :)

After some additional test, I'm sorry that most of the tips I have given are just rubbish...

I don't know why, but after a huge amount of shoots, the camera become much better suddenly, the glaring effect that I hate most is almost gone.... Could it be due to warming up???

The only 2 things that seems obvious on my phone now is:-

1) the image seems sharper on the bottom, you may get surprise result by simply turning the phone 180 degree,
2) the region around the center has a huge effect on the brightness, so choose the object in the region to get a good shot

Below are some samples I took, resized to 50%:-
