Performance:Processor:As previously said, the ETEN M600 employs a Samsung S3C 2440 400 MHz processor, whose listed clock speed does not do it justice.
Recent benchmarking tests showed that it outperformed a Dopod 838 and even a 520MHz Dopod 900.
Screen Display:Other than the usual, 2.8” QVGA, 240 x 320 pixels and 65,536 colors, ETEN M600 supports a LTPS TFT-LCD screen. In plain English, the deal is that TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD screens made using LTPS (Low Temperature Poly Silicon) technology have much improved aperture ratios and therefore enhanced screen brightness. Another significant aspect of LTPS TFT-LCDs is that they consume less power, which in turn contributes to the ETEN M600 having a longer battery life.
Camera:[attachmentid=4553]
The camera is a SXGA, which is still of a 1.3MP resolution. As in other 1.3MP cameras, plenty of lighting is essential to take good pictures using the ETEN M600, regardless of flash or no flash. Still, pictures taken with an ETEN M600 do appear brighter. One interesting thing is that its camera application comes with a good number of large icons on its borders; probably designed for one-handed operation.
What's even more interesting, especially for employees in the Singapore Armed Forces or in other "sensitive" workplaces, is that there will be a
"camera-less" version of the ETEN M600 at S$50.00 off its regular counterpart's retail price. For those who buy an ETEN M600 with camera, but later decide to remove its camera hardware, removal is also possible for a similiar sum of S$50.00.
Battery life:[attachmentid=4554]
The ETEN M600 spots a 1440mAh Li-Ion battery, which on paper promises:
- Talk-time: 3.5 to 4 hours.
- Standby: 150 to 200 hours.
- Pocket PC usage: 10 to 15 hours.
Still, Pocket PC battery lives depend largely on battery usage and as such, vary from individual from individual. Personally, this author’s daily Pocket PC usage pattern is as follows:
- Phone Talk-Time Duration: estimated 1.5 to 2 hours per day.
- SMS Dosage: estimated 20 SMS-es sent/received per day.
- Bluetooth 'On' Duration: estimated 12 hours per day.
- Wi-Fi 'On' Duration: estimated 1 hour per day.
- Applications Usage Duration: An assortment of system-monitoring, information, internet, music, and gaming applications for about 1.5 to 2 hours per day.
To surmise, the ETEN M600 still had 29% of juice left after almost 2 full days of usage and we dare say that this result comfortably outperforms the batteries of the O2 XDA II Mini and the O2 XDA IIi.
