DOPOD - Don't Over Pay On Dopod
xtemujin
I cannot argue with the interactions of Dopod with PPCSG as most of us forum members here have no firsthand dealing with Dopod.

It is another form of "read". smile.gif

If none of them visit PPCSG, there wouldn't have been any interactions between Dopod and PPCSG in the first place.

Don't quite understand what you are saying. Can u clarify?

In any case, why wouldn't any Dopod marketing person who's worth his salt not be on this forum? Know your users right?
xtreme6
They are suppsed to be releasing the PDA's this month right? At all major TELCO's?

i think if they DO read this thread they would've stopped after the 3rd page of ranting :) its quite a hit to take on the ego, if they're immature enough.

I am actually a big fan of XDA II MINI, for its slimness, sexy form factor and ultimate portability, but I must say the 2 new models 838 and the 900 don't appeal to me... they both look clunky and huge. I wouldn't want to carry the 900 out as it looks like the big fat IPAQ PDAs of yesteryears. And with that kinda steep price, i would rather switch to the soon-to-be-released MOTO-Q (RAZR-thin Blackberry killer) or the SE P900 successor (can't remember the model).

Have you not wonder why the 900 is marketed as your little compact notebook replacement? and not as a smartphone or PDA? SIZE does matter... hahaha... grin.gif grin.gif grin.gif

oic, he was trying to consolidate the name list for Qtek9000 & Atom. but it was removed soon after i read it. confused.gif

MO for Qtek9000?! I want in! grin.gif
Dylas
Chesterchen,

Even if we group order from Expansys Qtek9000, one unit still cost $1600 .. then we still need pay for GST ... and etc ... still come out to about $1800 plus ... or is there any place we can get Qtek9000 at a better deal ? ha, i only know of Expansys ...

Waaaooo!!! What a thread!

Didn't know how heatup this thread is.....
Anyway, just got some scoop from........................................

O2 had some disagreement with HTC, so they actually lost some(maybe all) model from HTC. See, Atom is made my Qanta. Bet Acer, Mitec, Compal & etc etc will be their next ODM.

Price wise, hahaha, SIS is distributing them!
I think Dopod made a mistake in finding SIS to distributing 900 & 838. So I think most of you should know where the price hike came from.

And remember your experiences in SIS service centre???

Ahhh,,, i will still stick to my Phone, PDA combo. But Motorola Q and Atom still tempt me!

I was initially very excited about getting a 3G PDA phone. However, considering the price of it, I am tempted to get a brand new pocket PC to use with my 3G phone. Personally, S$1888 is a little steep.

sorry, this is my very first post on PPCSG, been using PDA phone all my working life, since Psion days...
I'd realised none of members complained about Dopod 900 on board RAM at 64MB ; why? I believed this is one significant bottleneck. I owned both Xda2(RAM-128MB) & Xda mini(RAM-64MB), I am aware of the disadv at 64MB.

Yes, it is a disadvantage, but not as significant in WM5 compared to older OS. At least, the RAM is no longer used for installing programs. Anyway, most (if not all) WM5 devices only have 64MB RAM.

Hell, yeah. $1888 is ridiculous. I'll probably go get an HP and save close to a grand.

Let's close this thread as the overwhelming feedback from it is that the $100 price increase at the last minute was not a good idea.

it's very disappointing that dopod has brought up the price and having the exclusive right to distribute dopod only. it's really a turnoff to see my dream phone becomes soooooooo expensive. maybe it's time to wait for nokia tv phone(although shldnt be compared to a PPC phone), since nokia tv phone is only $1000-ish? somemore with more features than universal?

btw, i just got back from Taiwan. While in Taipei, I went to Guan Hua and saw several shops having the 900. I made an enquiry and was told it would cost NT28,000 which is approx. SGD1,400. I think can bargain for a 5-10% discount. Not sure if it requires a contract but I doubt it.
wilton_h
dopod is not that good.
