I have been using it for quite sometimes. Even use it to download the whole Web site and export for my future reference.

How does it actually works ?
Hmmm.... guess I will do some exploring when I wake up.
John Teoh
Quite simple. After installation, just create a new channel. Enter the channel name, Web address, depth and some other options depending on what you like. Once you are connected to internet, just sync and all the channels will do updated.

I managed to WOL PPCSG, but I can't do it for Channel News Asia and the New Paper. I used the default settings, except for the name and URL. Is there an additional step required? Thanks.
EEXOOO
Yay! I got it to work , really its easy grin.gif
I got channel news asia but never really included any additional steps. Got it to work fine.

I'm totally impressed at what it can do! Guess mobipocket is going to retire!
pltan
What settings do you guys use? I have it on default settings after just downloading and installing and it took a good 30 mins + to get cnn.com and bbc.....

trgsp2
i can't stand the mobile version of all websites and since i intend to surf on my ppc like i do on desktop...i did a pocket ie registry tweak to "change" it to MSIE 5.5 or MSIE 6.0..when u load the page on your PIE its blank isit? u tweaked your PIE before? if u haven it MAY bet he cause of the difference...i not sure too...i'm noob...first PPC arrived 1 week ago..hehe...some pros care to comment??

Yah I use the same url. Thats weird. Ever tired deleting the files and do a resync ?
blueayz
I managed to connect after all using the default settings for Channelnewsasia after all. Seems the software was a bit unstable initially, but after doing a few resets I have synchronised New Paper, Channelnewsasia and other sites. I increased max level and max off-site level to 5. Initially when I set to 15 it took a very long time. So now I update on the news without wi-fi. Power!
vicott
It's kinda scary when u set the link depth to as far as 15. Usually, a max level of 1 to 4 is sufficient for most sites. Anything more will usually mean huge bandwidth & long download time. It's also good to limit off-site links as some links may lead to webpages which are not mobile-friendly. That can also lead to long download time. Most of the time, I just set the off-site level to 0 or 1.
twosix
EEXOOO, thanks, will try it again.
twosix
I use 3 level deep and it already takes a long time to sync, and the size comes up to >10MB per site. I can't imagine setting to 15 levels deep.

Yeah seriously......I've got my level settings at 2 and none for Off-site, and it takes about 20-30 mins, for me to synch bbc, cnn and cna....can anyoen offer any advice? How long do you guys take with such high settings?

vicott
I also use WOL to sync some RSS Feeds (converted to HTML webpages using scripts). It's pretty convenient to view subscribed channels and RSS Feeds all in one program. grin.gif All my subscribed channels are pretty small (almost all using max level of 1 or 2 only) and it doesn't really take too long to sync. Of course, it is better to seek out mobile-friendly sites or RSS Feeds to sync, with controlled link depth. smile.gif
trgsp2
2-3 levels are good enuff for news sites for me...

if u learnt tree data structures before: pgs saved increase exponentially with level=>15 levels ensures you a full 1gb mem card...

my humble opinions ...
EEXOOO
Now it seems like it ain't working O_O. Yesterday it was working fine, now for every single channel ( with the same settings ) I get 24.00 B of data. Anyone with the similar problems ?
trgsp2
1.check internet connection with pie
2.open pie to check 1st page you wanna save with wol.(to ensure destination pg server is up & running and that you're not being directed to alternative mobile pg or error)

if above 2 are ok wol should save success...if above ok & yet wol cannot...mebbe reinstall try??

I tried and to my surprise my PIE ain't working. Even though I got connected through usb cable and getting internet connection from my com, whenever I proceed to a specific Web site it displays error "The page you are looking for cannot be found" which means my connection ain't okay.

How do I solve this problem ?
vicott
Does this happen frequently? Usually, you can either do these if it only happens occassionally:
1) disconnect and reconnect
2) disconnect, clear temp files and reconnect
3) or disconnect, soft reset and reconnect.

Soft reset! How could I forgot about it. Been some time since I last softreset my phone. Thanks bro vicott, I got it to work already. So is WOL. grin.gif

It's not advisable to sync dynamic websites with huge number of pages like this. The download size is large and download time is very long.

Size and time is not really an issue because the above Web site only updates when there is a change in bus routes and stuff.
trgsp2
hey...cool idea...anyone with a fast connection to try out if the "sunnysoft sbs bus guide" works? i really love to try but my 512 singnet adsl gonna take forever man...

1 more thing..if it succeeds how much size does it take up>???
vicott
It isn't exactly worth the trouble because:
1) u need to build a list of the links to all the webpages for each & every bus service
2) u aren't able to use the search
3) it's basically a big collection of bus info. without any useful search, it isn't very user-friendly
4) it's likely to take several MBs. my guess would be 10MB or more.

Furthermore, for webpages which are seldom updated, downloading them makes more sense that adding them for offline synchronisation. There is no need to use softwares like WOL to sync them and that's really overkill.

Actually if the information does not change frequently, you can sync the whole Web site and then export out.

I tried, but it says "the document isn't available for off-line browsing"

Two reasons:

1) Your depth for the link has reached the limit set by you.
2) For some reason, the Web site is not working. Go this problem before with a few websites.

How long does that take? Seems like whenever I sync a site, with just 2 levels, it still takes about 30+ mins.....

It also depends on the site. One more thing is that you can try not to download the pictures to see if it will be faster. Normally in less than 10 mins.

Sounds like the channel can be either a forum or a Web site that is not mobile-friendly. Mobile-friendly sites usually does not take too long.

The 4 sites are:

BBC
CNN
Channel News Asia
ESPN

:(

All on level 2

Are u synchronising/downloading the full version of the site or the mobile-friendly version? Some of these sites have mobile-friendly versions, in case u are unaware of them.

Thanks I've configured wireless versions for the sites except Channel News Asia, can't seem to find if they have one or not....

So this is better than Avantgo?

I'll use this then. But the Web site shows restriction 15days... mean the software only allow use of 15days?

It's a trial version. You will have to purchase it to continue using it further. The good thing about using this over AvantGo is that it grabs content directly from the respective sites instead of going through a medium like AvantGo server, which may sometime be the source of down-times or synchronisation problems.

seeing how helpful everyone is, got to contribute these two greats sites for WOL.
