as i am learning how to do this.. ii just want to share the process for those who want a simle guide. many info are dispersed about the forum so i am trying to consolidate them.

Please NOTE: this is not a individual effort. i have read up on other threads in which bro aficionado, rivaldo, thirtycents, don, tweek, etc have already mentioned. without their post i wouldnt even have tried to do such stuff to my mini.

1st: do a hard reset. (power button and soft reset button at the same time.)
2nd: run through the ppc screen alignment and cutting and pasting of appointment. set your time.
3rd: JUST BEFORE they automatically config your device, do a soft reset. your ppc will have its bare minimum.
4th: go to settings>system>about>device ID tap to change the name of your ppc. (this is optional.) don't like my device called pocket_pc. tap the clock in the today screen to change the date as well.
5th: go to settings>system>regional settings> and change it to australia. if not calls that come in will have brackets in the 1st 3 numbers shown in your caller id. ie (612) 34567. that's what i noticed. correct me if i am wrong. then i will edit this post.

6th: most important part. which files to install?

Caller_ID_Magician_Generic_WWE_RC13.CAB for your photo contacts caller ID. i realised if i installed the some other cab file i couldnt install this so i installed this immediately.

smartdialing_magician_generic_wwe_rc16 (no1 should miss out. as the file explains itself, it is for smartdialling. remember to do a soft reset before you can see it functioning.) i just realised the 2 above files i mentioned will have problems if you don't install both immediately.

M1_ALL_103116.sa.CAB--m1
SingTel_ALL_103147.CAB--Singtel
StartHub_ALL_103116.sa.CAB--starhub
for your respective gprs settings

phonepad_magician_generic_wwe_rc12 this file is for a different type of input which is quite fast. my preferred input.

your service provider files. is something like cab-customization-magician-o2asia_______ <- your service provider name here.

cab-arcsoftmms-2.0.022-magician-o2asia. for your mms folder in inbox.

cv2.41.386_wwe clearvue software for viewing pdf and powerpoint files.


that's all i have installed in my mini. any pros here would like to add other files Please let me know. info of many of cab files found here

7th: tweaking.

NOTE: you need registry editor to continue the following.

change ringtone directory to storage card: Open your registry editor and proceed to HKEY_CURRENT_USER> ControlPanel>Sound Categories>Ring> and change directory to \storage card\Rings\ you may change Rings to something else.

changing storage of avantgo to storage card:
1) Using your file explorer (or ActiveSync), move your 'avantgo' folder, from 'windows' folder to the 'Storage Card' folder.
2) Using your registry editor, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AvantGo\
3) Tap to edit "DatabaseLocation" value.
4) Change it from '\Windows\avantgo' to '\Storage Card\avantgo'.

i have never changed avantgo stuff before so the chunk is copied and pasted from this thread by don.

assigning more resources to cache fonts glyphs: (don't think is going to make more space.. but to speed up your mini)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>system>GDI>GLYPHCACHE> change the limit from 8192 to 32768. more info found here

i tried something like this before. But I think one of the problems is MMS doesn't get installed. Couldn't get the MMS to work.

you are not freeing up ROM space, but more of RAM space.

to free up ROM space? it involves some flashing which is not allowed to be discussed here. :D

If u had bypassed the auto-install sequence after u hard-reset = your Extended ROM folder (which contains all the .cab installation files) will be made available to u = don't even need to do anything extra .

Simply use any file explorer (PPC) or ActiveSync explorer (PC) and u should see your Extended ROM as a folder, residing in the directory where your Storage and Storage Card folders are.

Actually the latest is 1.12.00 WWE. Unfortunately, 1.12 is not available for download from the www.seeo2.com Web site yet. It is available at the Semitech service centre though.

Don't worry if u have 1.11; if u ask me, there isn't any significant upgrades in 1.12 .

Am going to get a dopod pro 838. Was wondering if we can do the same thing to the dopod pro 838 to save RAM space?
