Sony Ericsson will have a live premiere webcast with Q&A of its Xperia X1 Windows Mobile Phone today as part of the built up towards its impending launch on 30th September. It aims of course to jack up the hype and hopefully the market demand for the Xperia X1. At least it will alleviate the damage done by the "leak" of pictures and vital statistics of the HTC Touch HD which I wonder is really accidental. Well just give HTC the benefit of the doubt and take a look at Sony Ericsson's live webcast here tonight Singapore Time 8 pm.
Update: The Live Webcast is over. Below are my comments on it.

Waa... first time I come across SE so quick to do 'damage control'

But I would prefer that they price the X1 cheaply to entice people ... good for consumer. But then again the rumored split between the S and E comes to mind... which makes me wonder who will sarpork the future upgrading of firmware?

Just finished watching the Live Webcast from 8pm-8.33pm. grin.gif Very interesting stuff. Magnus Anderson, Senior Product Manager for the Xperia X1 explained the Panel "Desktop" design concept of the X1, basically it is a set of 9 active "Desktop" panels, some are customisable that makes the X1 unique. New panels can be downloaded from SE website, more and more such panels will be made available. He and another SE lady also answered questions fielded from all over the world by email, including one from Singapore. The question on whether the X1 will have WM7 upgrade received no answer from Magnus as he claimed that he is not able to divulge anything regarding the future products or plans of SE.

Magnus claims that the X1 has everything in it, a "blatant" error, as it obviously don't have multi-touch support like the iPhone. He said that the X1 has Flash and Java support but no TV out.

The keyboard and casing looks solid. The panels are lovely. It is heartening to know that SE has put a lot of care and attention on the X1. Strangely no one asked about the rumored fallout betwee S & E, may be such a question even if fielded has been censored. grin.gif

Magnus also claimed that the X1 has a fast 528 Mhz processor which makes it a powerful device which again is plain fallacy as even the Samsung i780 which probably costs less than half the X1 has a faster 624 Mhz processor. So does Omnia which is 624 Mhz powered.

SE is using the Johnny X character to associate with the X1 to make it endearing for Westerners, but alas Asians like us can hardly identify with him. There will be six Johnny X episodes. I watched the first episode earlier.

They live in a make believe SE world of their own, oblivious to better stuff out there by HTC, Samsung and Japanese. Anyway these people are busy and also know how to relax when it is time to do so. Their summer holidays can last for a whole month can go to Phuket and Bali to laze in the sunny beach. Asians like us where got so nice life?

the thriller he played, quantum of solace seems to lag big times IMO, yet he emphasized how he used X1 to watch movies while on the go. i think mr magnus hasn't seen how diamond and pro performs videoplaying, not to mention the iphone :)
