According to Kevin Chen, General Manager of HTC Middle East, Africa & CIS, HTC devices may have Windows Mobile 7 running in early 2009. WM 7 will provide better support for large WVGA touch screen interface and will have multi-touch capability, and "gestures" allowing the user to execute simple tasks with things like finger swipes, and even moving or shaking the device itself. Most of these new features are to counter iPhone according to a Microsoft internal document. So looks like we have to thank Steve Job and team for the "new" innovations in WM7. Thanks to Brighthand which spotted that internal Microsoft document on this. This document has since been removed from its website for obvious reasons. Leaked screenshots of WM7 from that document however are now all over the Internet, see examples below

Even if Touch Pro is upgraded to WM7.0, are we sure the Touch Pro screen is capable to support Multi-Touch?

I thought the touch screen technology is different between Touch Pro and iPhone 3G? confused.gif

i don't think that the current crop of devices may be upgradeable due to things like multitouch etc. i stand corrected of course. Nevertheless, no more interim upgrades for me till wm7 comes out

There was another thread here @ PPCSG that seems to indicate that the TP is multi-touch capable...

hope the newer device offerings will have hardware capability to incorporate wm7, else it would be a waste of investment.

Yeah, otherwise it'll be pointless to buy a $1000 device only to have it being "left in the lurch" when WM7 comes out.

But am I right to say, that until WM7 comes out, none of the current devices are guaranteed to run WM7?
