Full Version: Is Windows Mobile OS Over The Hill?

Recently I have heard and read a number of comments online that the Windows Mobile OS has gone over the hill and may be in a state of decline. Even a staunchly supportive Smartphone and Pocket PC Magazine publisher has decided to call it a day. Another company is said to be working on a new magazine targeted towards iPhone users. Mobilitysite has also written a lengthy article here lamenting the state of WM OS and predicts its impending demise. So do you agree that WM OS is on the decline and go the way of the Dodos and Palm OS? Looks like the next mobile era will be ruled by Android and iPhone.

to me it sounds just like some PR stun. There are a lot more WM sold than iphone. iphone is just a niche and the only thing the media talks about because they follow all the apple stuff.

Just the HTC diamond sold 1M since June, then add the touch and the blackjack, and you have already more WM phone that apple phone (then add the long tail of other WM phone, and apple looks very small). Then count Nokia, selling 1M a day ...

All bulshit, WM is rocking (it's not perfect and is getting better at usability, with help of it's partners). don't listen to a guy who is trying to sell magazines, they are suffering as a all, they are not migrating to the web fast enough.

This same crap is being repeated over and over again, as if all of a sudden WM devices have ceased to be useful just because they dont have fancy finger swiping panels. What is more important, a fully functional device or one that just looks cool?

Maybe the WM detractors think if they say this often enough it will come true, sorry not everyone is a mindless drone.

Just to say -- You think Microsoft is going to allow that to happen? I don't think so. The enterprise market is where the action is. Blackberry and WM dominate this market.
Iphone is for kids who don't need it for work. It cannot do documents, handle zip files properly, not even MMS. Want to "rule" the market, DREAM ON.

Just my two cents.

i agreed, i totally support WM !!!

Till now, even how attractive iphone is, i still cant convince myself in replacing the WM device which im using for the past 3yrs.

Printed publications, no matter on which topic, are generally going downhill. So, it doesn't really have anything to do with Windows Mobile. In fact, Windows Mobile seem to be going up trend in terms of user base in recent years.

With HTC releasing so many more devices and other manufactures such as Quanta, Asus and Toshiba releasing WM-based PPCs.

If you're looking to surf the net or a blackberry replacement, only a windows-mobile based device will serve the function. If you haven't tried, typing on the iPhone is a pain in the butt for me, as compared to the qwerty keyboard I've used since the IIs days.

Yeah...

I personally also believe iPhone is not suitable as a business phone.

For those iPhone owners I know, they ALL have another phone for business use. Either a Blackberry or a WM-based one...

It's amusement for the first few days with the touch features, but it dies down after the initial interest.

I've got to admit that Safari is pretty fast compared to PIE or Netfront, however, it fails to render some sites properly and crashes for basic sites such as IMDB.

Well... I don't think WM is going downhill... but its at its stage where growth will not be as fast... cos Adroit is coming... and Symbian have somehow caught up .... I think Iphone will be a force in the years to come....give them some time and they will soon catch up as well....
