Seems like mine does not reset after numerous of hardreset and not sure why.

Anyway, this is the location of the counter. After you have copy all the photos out from the default folder, just change the value back to 1 or any number you would like and it will be reset. I have tried it on my Omnia and it works.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Camera]
"DCFNumber"=dword:00000001

i am surprise that hardreset does not clear the registry back to factory defaults!
does that mean that all programs/games installed in memory cards need not be reloaded?

Not really lah. I think I did not clear the photos in My Storage and that's why even I hardreset the device, it will detect there are photos in the system and hence the running number become incremented.
